Few companies have, to date, made a serious commitment to implementing eco-sustainable policies aimed at protecting and preserving the ecosystem: one of these is Piquadro, which last year began new research into its products—and especially its materials—with the goal of reducing the environmental impact of production. The mission of the Bologna-based company has thus become to link the “Tech Inside” concept—which has always associated Piquadro with the development of new technologies in the travel and business sectors—to the new demands of recycling, eco-sustainability, and respect for the environment.
It is precisely in this spirit that Piquadro has created the PQ-Recycled Index®, a metric that quantifies the ratio between the weight of recycled material used in a given product and the total weight of material used to manufacture it. There are three product lines in particular that embody and illustrate Piquadro’s commitment to “Zero Impact” production, which we’ll explore together: Bios, Brief 2, and Macbeth.
BIOS Line: Urban Font and Casual Style
The PQ-Bios line’s name itself reflects its eco-sustainable nature; it is made entirely from ECONYL® fabric, which is produced by recycling recovered materials such as fishing nets, fabric scraps, and used carpeting sourced from oceans and landfills around the world.
The line features a wide selection of laptop backpacks, designed to hold laptops of all sizes, practical and casual single-shoulder bags for everyday use, men’s fanny packs and crossbody bags—such as the Fanny Pack with Pockets, designed to hold all your daily essentials—and a wide selection of men’s wallets and coin purses. All items in the PQ-Bios line are enhanced with full-grain calfskin leather details and metal hardware featuring the “Piquadro” logo with a brushed nickel finish.
Brief 2: The Green Transformation of an Unmistakable Line
Brief 2, on the other hand, is an evolution and improvement of a historic and iconic line from Piquadro: the Brief Line. Compared to the original collection, the Bologna-based brand has updated the fabric, replacing the nylon used in previous versions with the new NylonPlus®, a high-quality nylon fiber made from recycled yarns that offers the same qualities as virgin nylon yarn but with a reduced environmental impact. In addition, it has also added new features and styles, such as the brand-new Messenger Bag made from recycled nylon. As with the Bios Line, the Brief 2 Line offers a wide selection of styles ranging from laptop backpacks to men’s crossbody bags, fanny packs, and single-shoulder bags.
All products in the Brief 2 line feature a glasses pocket, an internal cell phone pocket, and an AirPods® pocket. In addition, some models feature the brand-new “Light” function: a thin LED strip woven into the fabric and connected to a small rechargeable battery that turns on via a button on the shoulder straps; this feature allows you to increase your visibility in any situation where it’s needed—for example, when biking to work. This feature is included, for instance, in the Brief 2 Single-Shoulder Bag with LED.
Macbeth: Minimalist Business Interior Design
Finally, we come to the real highlight of the Piquadro Spring/Summer 2021 collection: the Macbeth Line, which combines the shapes and materials of a minimalist and casual look with the practicality and dynamism of a product suited to a contemporary business environment. With a PQ-Recycled Index® of 100% (meaning all the fabric used comes from recycled materials), this is perhaps the most eco-sustainable collection among those offered by Piquadro.
The Macbeth collection features various product types, such as the large iPad®-compatible bag, embellished with a leather detail on the front, as well as several backpack models designed to hold laptops of various sizes and the extremely practical slim briefcase with two handles—a practical and elegant choice for the contemporary business professional. The line’s details are crafted from full-grain calfskin, and the metal hardware bearing the “Piquadro” logo features a gunmetal finish.
In our stores and online at Studioarch, we’ve always been committed to the environment: that’s why our goal is to ensure that, by 2030, our selection consists exclusively of high-quality items made with eco-friendly materials and sustainable production techniques.
